Alcaraz to Face Everyday Players in $1 Million Winner-Takes-All Event

Everyday tennis enthusiasts will have the possibility to claim A$1m when they take on world-class athletes - including leading player Carlos Alcaraz - in a one-point battle prior to January's Australian Open

Tournament officials of the year's first Grand Slam have unveiled the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will pit a dozen non-professionals against elite athletes in a elimination competition at the Australian Open venue

Organizers have not said exactly how the event will work, but it is anticipated to follow a comparable structure to the most recent iteration

The elite players will be permitted to make one service and the everyday players twice - as is the usual procedure in traditional tennis

While it is not certain how the bracket will work, there will be several competitive phases and the location will be the main stadium rather than the smaller Kia Arena

The concluding rounds will occur in a night session instead of early afternoon

Competitor Requirements

Any Australians - or international players who have signed up with Tennis Australia - can compete in 'quick-match event' events at their community centers

The victors of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a random pairing, with a single non-professional from every geographic division chosen to compete in the 'grand finale' in a night session on the specified date

There will also be a preliminary competition in December which amateurs, lower ranked pros, famous personalities and sports personalities can participate in

It commences on the starting date and the two winners will qualify for the midweek 'championship match' with the additional everyday players and top-ranked athletes

"Regardless of your skill level, the ultimate winner will walk away with the prize. Applications will begin shortly at clubs across the country"

Competition planners said there were "further celebrities to be revealed shortly", while the official website mentioned "well-known figures" would be involved
