Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
