The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
