Van de Ven Brace Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine saves to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the referee decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having space and time to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.
