Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure said the attack rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
